In the first innings, Zaheer took four wickets for England in 1985. India won the toss and opted to bowl. To make maximum use of the conditions on the offer, Zaheer dismissed opener Andrew Strauss and skipper Michael Vaughan. Early bounce was enough to stop England's batting order and they failed to recover from early shocks. At the end of the innings, Zaheer came back for two more wickets and to complete the route.
Five of India's top seven, Gretti led India to a competitive score of 481 and 283 runs - Sachin Tendulkar scored 91 runs. In reply, England started batting at the interval of three days. But on the fourth day, Zaheer started talking to the ball. His first victim Alastair Cook was out before 23 runs. Vaughan led England's recovery and scored 124 runs. The match at 280/3 seemed to be moving forward for the draw.
But the decision to bowl Zaheer's wicket changed the tide in favor of India. The incoming delivery in Vaughan turned in one side and crashed on his stumps. India had very successful success. Along with the angle, Zaheer set Paul Collingwood and Ian Bell to keep India on the verge of a famous win.
Last ceremony Kumble and others had completed because Trent Bridge saw the dramatic fall of England - Zaheer was the architect-in-chief. England were bowled out for 355 and India chased 73 runs easily. This victory also meant that India had won at least one of its last 12 tours. Zaheer was elected as Man of the Match elected.
