US sets date for additional China tariffs

US sets date for additional China tariffs

America has said that it will impose more tariff on sugar goods from August 23 in the growth of trade war between the world's two largest economies.

Its top business negotiator has said

25% of imports will be worth about $ 16 billion (£ 12b.3bn) in annual imports, which will include 279 product lines, including semiconductor and machinery.

Duties are part of the broad round of tariffs on goods of $ 50 billion of goods declared in March.

The first installment on goods worth $ 34 billion came into effect in July.

The United States has said that the purpose of the tariff is to punish China for "unfair" business practices, such as rules which in some areas force companies to take local partners if they want to do business in the country.

The talks between the two countries have failed to compromise on issues, which prompted China to retaliate with the tariff of US President Donald Trump to further their threats.

The US is now considering a $ 200 billion tariff on consumer goods, in which the initial $ 50 billion was saved from duties in the round. Mr Trump has said that he will be keen to kill all the imports of China along with the duties.
