Venezuela has been prevented from anti-government demonstrations in recent months, in which more than 100 people have been killed. The opposition blamed Maduro for the lack of old food and medicine among the economic downturn.

Venezuela is living under the fifth year of a serious financial crisis, which has given birth to malnutrition, hyperinflation and mass migration.

South American countries are OPEC members with huge oil reserves, but since the fall in oil prices in 2014, its only thriving socialist economy has collapsed.

Maduro changed the socialist former President Hugo Chavez after his death from cancer in 2013. Former bus driver Maduro won a new six-year term in May but his main rivals dismissed the election and accuse him of irregularities on a large scale.

Maduro says that he is battling "imperialist" conspiracy to destroy socialism and take Venezuela's oil. The rivals accused him of authoritarianism and said that he once destroyed the rich economy and crushed cruelly.

Last year, the wicked police officer Oscar Perez kidnapped a helicopter and fired him in government buildings, which he said was an action against a dictator. Perez was hunted down and the Venezuelan army was killed.
