Officials say hundreds of people have been injured in the north of mostly island.

The magnitude of seven earthquakes was shallow, only 10 km (6.21 miles) were underground. It damaged thousands of buildings and started power cuts.

On neighbouring island Bali, video footage showed people screaming from their homes.

Since the earthquake hit on Sunday morning, there have been more than 130 aftershocks.

A tsunami warning was issued but was removed after a few hours.

It came a week later when another earthquake killed Lombok, which is popular with tourists who visit their beaches and hiking trails. At least 16 people were killed in that earthquake.

'Everyone is nervous'
Lombok is about 4,500 square km(1,700 sq mi) island in the west of a big island of Bali.

A spokesman for Indonesia's Disaster Mitigation Agency told AFP news agency that many buildings in Lombok's main city, Mataram have been affected. Most of them were made with weaker building materials.

Earthquake warning are effective?
History of Deadly Earthquakes
Mataram residents described a powerful shock that people were sent to the streets to escape.

A resident named Iman said, "Everyone comes out of their homes immediately, everyone is nervous."

There were blackouts of electricity in many parts of Mataram

Patients in the city hospital and the Denpasar Hospital in Bali were also evacuated by the doctors on the streets.

The debris broke the roads of Lombok and Bali, which locals demanded cleanliness in the few hours of the earthquake.

Bali tremor
The Earthquake was felt for several seconds in Bali. A worker in Denpasar described the scene to the BBC.

"They were only small shocks in the beginning but then they grew up big and the people started shouting 'earthquake', then panicked all the employees and got out of the building," said the unknown person.

The Holidays model in Bali and Pregenier Christi Tegen described the shaking of 15 seconds, after which "many aftershocks" were described.

Minister of Home Affairs of Singapore during the earthquake Shanmugam was in Lombok for a security conference.

They described on Facebook that their hotel rooms violently shook. "It was impossible to stand up," he said.

Australian Home Affairs and immigration Peter Dutton, who was also in the conference, said that his delegation was safe and thanked Indonesian police and officers for their work.

He tweeted on Monday morning that there was no report of Australian casualties till now.

Gili evacuations
The earthquake has also affected the Gili Islands, which are just three small islands from the coast of Lomokak, which are especially popular with divers.

A tweet from the head of the Disaster Mitigation Agency said that 1,000 foreign tourists have been evacuated from the islands.

"Some of them have been hurt and are in shock," I told Nyman Siddakarya to TV One.

A disaster officer shared a video showing a beach scene because people were waiting to go.

He said that there were a limited number of boats available, so the clearance was gradually going, but more boats were on their way.
Despite some minor damage to Bali's Denpasar Airport, both the Lombok and Bali airports are operating normally, some ceiling panels were shaken loose by the tremors.

Indonesia suffers from an earthquake because it is located on the ring fire - the line of frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions which surround the entire Pacific Rim.

From the sea level, more than half of the world's active volcanoes are part of the ring.
