UP shelter home abuse case: 24 girls rescued, 18 missing; couple arrested

It has been reported in the news agency PTI that police had rescued 24 girls from a shelter in a city in eastern Uttar Pradesh on Monday when charges of sexual abuse were brought to their notice. Managers who have been arrested on the shelter home and its superintendent of a couple have been arrested.

Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday promised strong action against the perpetrators of alleged sexual exploitation of minor girls in Government-sponsored shelter homes and said that the government financed for non-governmental organizations to run a shelter house Will give "Why should we use a non-governmental organization? The government should spend money to build houses and people to rent them to take care of these children."
Kumar also jolted the opposition leaders who had opposed the candle march in Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Addressing the media, he said, "The people sitting in opposition should look like the comments made against themselves in the past and against women in the past."
