Retail inflation falls to 9-month low of 4.17% as vegetable and fruit prices dip


According to the data of the Central Statistical Office (CSO), on the basis of Consumer Price Index (CPI), inflation for June has also been reduced to 4.92 per cent from the earlier estimate of 5 per cent.

According to government data released on Monday due to a slowdown in prices of fruits and vegetables, India's retail inflation came down to nine months low of 4.17 per cent in July. Last recorded in October 2017 at 3.58 per cent.

According to the Central Statistical Office (CSO) data, inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for June has also been reduced to 4.92 per cent from the earlier estimate of 5 per cent.

In comparison to the year-on-year comparisons, retail inflation increased by 2.36 per cent in July last year.

CSO data showed that inflation in vegetables decreased by 2.19 per cent in June compared to 7.8 per cent in June.
Prices of fruits increased by 6.98 per cent, which was more than 10 per cent last month.

According to statistics, inflation in protein-rich items such as meat and fish, and in July compared to the previous month, milk was also slow.

However, on the basis of changes in the CPI, the inflation in the fuel and light segment was 7.14% to 7.96% last month.
